Biography
Mr. Deffenbaugh graduated from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas in 1975. He began his professional career in 1977 as a CPA with the Big Eight Accounting firm of Peat, Marwick & Mitchell. In 1981, he left public accounting and went to work in the energy industry in the pipeline segment. In 1986, Mr. Deffenbaugh started a natural gas service company that had operations in three states. He kept this company for about twenty-five years before selling it off to focus on the practice of law. During that time, he graduated from St. Mary's University Law School, and in 1992 became a Texas licensed attorney and counselor at law. He hung out his own shingle in 1992 and served clients in the areas of litigation, estate planning, drafting wills and trusts, new business start-ups, bankruptcy, immigration, tax work, oil and gas matters, and contracts. In 2004, he and his daughter, Lisette C. Lange (a University of Texas Law graduate), formed Deffenbaugh & Lange, P.L.L.C. Mr. Deffenbaugh has served as an expert witness in business valuations in many trials over the years, drawing on his vast experience as an entrepreneur, attorney and CPA. In 2024, the law firm celebrates twenty years of serving Texans' legal needs. Mr. Deffenbaugh has a heart for teaching, having founded a bookkeeping school and served as an adjunct professor at Webster University teaching graduate level accounting. During Mr. Deffenbaugh's long and storied career, he has had the privilege of serving countless clients with needs across the legal spectrum. Although, he has narrowed his areas of practice in recent years, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience from which all of his clients can benefit.
Mr. Deffenbaugh has built strong ties in the San Antonio community as a graduate of a local high school, university and law school. He has served on the Advisory Board at Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union, multiple parish committees, the school board for Antonian College Preparatory High School, as a Council Officer for the Knights of Columbus, a St. Padre Pio Prayer Group leader and as an ACTS team member, to name a few. He has mentored many young people, entrepreneurs and lawyers over the years as well.
